Our Story: Stitch, Hello Kitty, and the Love That Built a Shop
Hi, I’m Mark. If you’ve walked into our stores in Los Angeles or Paris, or scrolled through our website, you’ve probably seen the Stitch dolls, Hello Kitty mugs, and limited-edition collabs—but you might not know the why behind them. Let me start with Lila.
Lila was my wife, the heart of our family. She didn’t just like Stitch and Hello Kitty; she lived for them. Her desk at home? A shrine: Stitch plushies in every pose, Hello Kitty mugs stacked with her favorite lavender tea, and a wall covered in vintage posters she’d hunted for years. “They’re not just toys, Mark,” she’d say, grinning as our kids, Mia (7) and Leo (5), hugged their Stitch blankets. “They’re little pieces of joy that stick with you—even when life gets messy.”
Life got messy in 2021. Lila lost her battle with cancer. Overnight, I went from being a husband to a single dad, juggling school runs, bedtime stories, and a mountain of grief. But the kids? They kept asking for “Mama’s Stitch” or “Mama’s Hello Kitty.” Those little characters were their lifeline to her. So I did what felt right: I cleared out the garage, set up a small online shop, and started selling the exact items Lila had loved—but only after I’d tested every single one myself.
Why? Because Lila would’ve wanted it that way. She’d laugh if I told you, but she was obsessed with quality. “No scratchy fabrics, no cheap plastic,” she’d say, snatching a rough Stitch doll from Leo once. “If it’s going to be loved, it should feel loved.” So I became a bit of a maniac: squeezing stuffed animals to check stitching, testing mugs for lead-free paint, even wearing Hello Kitty PJs for a week to make sure they didn’t pill. If it didn’t pass my “Lila Test”? It didn’t make the cut.
Today, our shop isn’t just a business. It’s a bridge—between Lila’s memory and our kids’ smiles, between parents who want safe, meaningful toys and kids who deserve that same joy. We opened our first store in LA (our hometown) in 2023, then Paris, where Lila’s grandma lived (and where she’d always dreamed of visiting). The kids help stock shelves now—Mia arranges the Hello Kitty stationery, Leo “tests” the Stitch backpacks (he’s very thorough). Customers often tell me, “Your stuff feels different”—that’s because it is. It’s made with the kind of care only someone who’s loved and lost (and fought to keep loving) can pour into it.
So when you buy that Stitch plush or Hello Kitty thermos from us, you’re not just getting a product. You’re getting a piece of a story: a dad trying to keep his kids’ light bright, a husband honoring his wife’s joy, and a community of folks who believe that even small things (like a well-made toy) can carry big love.
And hey—if you ever visit our LA or Paris stores, look for the little Stitch and Hello Kitty banners by the register. That’s Lila’s favorite saying: “Joy sticks around when you hold it close.” We’re just passing that along.
With love,
Mark, Mia, Leo, and the ghost of a wife who loved cats, aliens, and making memories.
